Woot!
The DSL's back up and I fixed it all by myself!
(I hadn't cycled the router when trying yesterday.)
I did speak to a nice Indian woman because the recorded message told me the order to cycle things while I was waiting for her to answer and she picked up before I was finished. She was so cute, "There you go ma'am and you did it all by yourself!"
Cute seems to be my current word, I told Dr. C he was cute yesterday. He was asking for one of the Dr. Wangs and didn't know the first name, he said, "Hopefully there's only one!" And I replied, "You're so cute, Dr. C!" His reply, (you gotta imagine it in a strong Mexican accent) "I am cute? Because I said that?" Well, yeah, between the 4-5 spellings and pronunciations (Wang, Wong, Hwang, Huang, etc.) we must have over a dozen doctors!
Now I prep for the weekend.

Blargh.
I finally got to sleep about 10am after moving to the Emergency Emergency Holographic Sleep Surface. (ie. a pallet on the floor.) I managed to pry myself out of bed in time to get a shower and then discovered that the DSL was down and, of course, I didn't have time to call AT&T. (Yes, I tried cycling it, that didn't work.) So I'll just add that to the list of things to do tomorrow before I leave.
One piece of good news, I talked my manager into letting me leave at 10pm tonight.
Yay.

Well, hell.
I was on the phone to [info]synkitty Tues. night and she was sniffling and coughing. I asked if she had a cold and she said , "Yeah, I think so."
Earlier this evening I get a text message from her saying, "Fever of 103.3, off to the ER."
She has a flu. They sent her home with a scrip and instructions to avoid people (especially her 2 year old!) for the next 4-5 days.
Hopefully she wasn't contagious at the bar this past Sunday and Monday.

I'm Famous Again!!
I blew a couple of minutes of my 15 by going to the WWE Bash PPV event last night. I know I made it on TV because I got a text message from someone telling me they'd seen me.
I had a great time at the Bash, I was accompanied by [info]childe_dirk and another lj-less friend of ours. It was my first live wrestling event. I got to see several of my favorite stars reasonably close up. Of course, I stupidly left my camera at [info]firestrike's house...

BTW, anybody know how many minutes you use up for being mentioned (no picture) in a newspaper article? I'm trying to figure out how much time I have left!

Celebrity Death
So, yeah, June has kinda sucked for celebrities. At least David Carridine apparently died doing something he enjoyed! But poor Farah Fawcett, she finally lost her long battle with cancer and the news of her death was dropped because Michael Jackson died.
I kinda liked the Jackson 5, I used to watch the cartoon. (As I remember the cartoon show would show either the Jacksons cartoon or the Osmond Brothers cartoon. I prefered the Osmonds. I was 8! Give me a break!!!) I didn't hate every song Michael Jackson put out...

Carousel begins...

Bye Farrah!

Mousies!
So, you may have noticed that my pets tend to have theme names, by tank at least, sometimes by species. For example, the rats in the icon were called Stormy and Cloudy (Short for Thunderstorm and Stormcloud). The current set of rats are still named for flowers after Hyacinth and Sweet William. The snakes are named after monsters in the film Nightbreed (except Sebastian, who's named what [info]trivialt would have named him, and Mathilda, who's named after a robot.)
Today I got a new male mousie and gave him 3 (!!) girlfriends. He is named Sugar Daddy, his new ladies are named Taffy, Milk Dud and Ribbon Candy. There is another tank of mice named Handsome, Sweetie and Cutie Pie.
And there is a tank of mice with no names! How sad!!
Help me out!!
The un-named mice are a very fat male; grey and black and white, a grey and white female and a white female with black eyes. Anybody know what their names should be?? The grey mice are related, in some way, though I don't remember for sure if they're siblings or parent/child. (Yes, it's the deep, deep South in my pet tanks. Actually, it may be all the way to European Royalty levels by now! That's why I went out and bought a totally un-related male to start the new tank. )

Stolen from [info]elynne's Journal
And re-posted completely without permission. But I felt it needed a wider audience. (And she knows where I live if she wants to take me to task for it!!!)

Things I have learned from fostering kittens
* Food is always better with company.

* Sleep is, too.

* Play as hard as you can when you get the chance.

* Everything is a toy. Everything. Some things may be put out of reach; this doesn't mean they aren't toys, they're just toys you can't get to right now.

* Some toys play back. This is both awesome and scary.

* Sometimes, poo happens. If you've got giardia, sometimes it can happen really quickly, and with little warning. Do your best to get to the litterbox in time, but don't be too hard on yourself if you can't.

* Giant scary hands will occasionally pick you up and do weird things to you. This is alarming, but not always bad, and fairly often it's actually really nice. It's best to make friends with the giant scary hands. They provide food, pets, and snuggles.

* There are at least two different kinds of cats in the world: the kind that will play with you (not too roughly), groom you, and generally hang out with you for a while when given the chance; and the kind that growl, hiss, and take a swat at you. Be careful not to get the two types mixed up. There may be a third kind of cat, the kind that lurks around the corner and seems a bit freaked out by you, but you're not really sure about that one.

Also, from the point of view of a giant scary hand: kittens have lots of sharp bits which they don't have very good control over yet. You will get scratched, probably a lot. It's 90% accidental, but it still stings and itches. Even so, it's well worth it for the chance of having a purring kitten sit in your lap while another kitten flies around the room chasing string.

ETA:
* Does that exciting stringlike wriggling thing you're chewing on make your butt hurt? If so, it just might be your own tail. Or it might be your littermate's tail, and she's simultaneously chewing on your tail. These things can be so difficult to sort out.

Birthday Celebration #3
I was too tired when I got home Monday night and then I had no net connection yesterday so here is the much belated review of The Annual Sniffles Birthday Bash.
[info]firestrike came over about noon and we promptly adjourned to the bedroom. To sleep. No, really, just sleep!! We made it out of the house before 4pm to run a couple of errands (All the pets were out of food. I heard the whispers, a coup was planned.) We met up with [info]kshandra at Romano's Macaroni Grill for a nummy birthday dinner, then back to my house to get changed. I was twitchy because I felt like I had promised people I would be at the bar early and we were later than I'd planned. Yeah, so late. I think it was 915pm when we arrived!!
Timmie had pink balloons all over the bar, when he ran out of helium, he blew them up by hand and tossed them on the dance floor. [info]synkitty had a bunch of lovely presents for me including more balloons, a cake, a photo album, socks, a candleholder and candles...
I proceeded to get my beer on. There were lots of friends out to celebrate including Kshandra, Maiandra, Firestike, myself, Ellie, Tycho and a cast of thousands!!! We had quite a bit of fun and sexual play going on in our booth. And occasionally spilling out of it. (I don't know how it started but [info]lucydogstringer wound up under Firestrike again at least twice!! Once while he was supposed to be singing a duet with me!) It was a pretty wonderful evening and I stayed sober enough to remember pretty much all of it. (Though there's a few details I'm choosing not to share here.)
After the bar, Kiri, Timmie, Synthia and I moved to Denny's where I still couldn't pay for anything!!!

Thanks everyone. I had a terrific time!!!!

Birthday Celebration #2
I got up at a reasonable hour, fed the pets, watered the yard (Yeah, so rumour has it that it's been raining in Northern California. Not on my yard, it hasn't!!) Then I went and picked up [info]besspeacetime and we wandered to Downtown Campbell where I knitted for an hour while she sketched me for a portrait she's planning to do. Then we went back to her place and played WoW for a while. We did a dungeon called Magister's Terrace 3 times and then we did my Birthday Battleground. Unfortunately the Hordies were better organized than us this evening and we lost. We were going to go again but after waiting 20 min. for another battleground to open I gave it up. So I packed up and went to KoC for some karaoke and a moderate amount of beer (I'm in training for tomorrow!!) Then I came home and ate the leftover flank steak from last night. And started a pot of Gwop.

Birthday Celebration #1
So for my Saturday Birthday Celebration I went to my parents house in the afternoon; [info]somebodyssister came over for a while and was a bit chagrinned that I already knew about her present! (Hey, LJ sent me an email!) We hung out for a bit and my parents gave me a $40 gift certificate to Amazon. Then Moochie left and my folks and I had nummy birthday dinner. Flank steak, marinated the way I like it, nutty pilaf, King's Hawaiian sweet rolls and asparagus.
Then it was off to the Santa Cruz Civic to see The White Album Ensemble and about 30 members of the Santa Cruz Symphony. As might be guessed by the group name, the performance was late era Beatles (and some well known songs from their solo careers.)
The White Album guys were very good musically but their stage presence could use some work. I found the sight of the symphony conductor's back to much more compelling most of the time. (He was amazing! During Live and Let Die he was basically dancing the orchestra along and they rocked!) After the intermission we snuck down to an empty row in the orchestra section because the seats in our original section were not built for women with hips. (The floor seats didn't have arms so there was more room to spread.)
It wouldn't have bothered me that the guy doing all of Paul's vocals and the guy doing George and Ringo sounded nothing like them except for the fact that Drew Harrison, who sang all the John vocals, sounded almost just like him. That made it kinda jarring when the other guys sang. (In fact the guy doing the George vocals sounded so little like him that I nearly didn't recognize While My Guitar Gently Weeps; despite having just looked at the program and seen it was coming up!) Don't get me wrong, they sang well and I enjoyed the show, but it was weird having one guy sing just like one of the Beatles when the other two didn't.
So that was the first of my birthday celebrations. Tomorrow's will be much more boring for anybody not in my WoW guild. (Level 39 Arathi Basin!!!)

Thanks, Moochie!!
[info]somebodyssister paid for my LJ.
I was going to do it last night but I got distracted playing Plants vs. Zombies.
Lucky for her! (Otherwise she'd have had to think of another birthday present!)
